Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, June 10, 2012.
After a windy Saturday, cooler weather follows for the Intermountain West on Sunday as the trough of low pressure over the region edges eastward across the Rockies. As the system progresses, showers will continue in parts of the Northern Intermountain West and Northern Rockies, while strong southerly winds spread into the Plains. Moisture in this wind flow will interact with a cold front trailing from a low lifting from the Dakotas into Ontario. This will translate into increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms in parts of the Upper Midwest and Central Plains. Areas of the Upper Mississippi Valley, Mid-Missouri Valley and the Northern and Central Plains are at slight risk of severe weather development late Sunday afternoon. While the main concerns with severe storm clusters in these regions are damaging wind gusts and hail events, a tornado threat may also exist late Sunday afternoon into the evening.
Meanwhile, in the South, deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico spreading across a frontal boundary lifting through the Gulf Coast States. This will translate into continued scattered rain showers and thunderstorms from areas of Louisiana through southern Georgia and northern Florida. Excessive precipitation in these areas will continue flood and flash flood concerns through the day.
Finally, to the north, a weak frontal boundary will create chances of showers and thunderstorms in areas of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
